Who is Clay Rice?

Clay Rice is an artist from Charleston, South Carolina. He is a silhouette artist and an award-winning children's book author.

What is a Silhouette?

A silhouette is defined as the dark shape and outline of someone or something visible against a lighter background.

 

The silhouette was a method of capturing the image of family and friends prior to the invention of photography.

Clay Rice uses the art form of the silhouette to create portraits and create stories. 

With permission, cut out different objects, animals, and people to create your own silhouette story.

Draw your silhouettes try to use white paper and a black crayon or marker.

Remember: It is important to have the silhouette be dark and the background light.
